ARCA - NAVAL APPLICATION

Air source Reversable CO₂ Air Conditioner

ARCA is configured for naval applications as a modular air conditioner dedicated to the single living unit (cabin) and has the following objectives:

  1. To identify a beneficial energy solution for heating/cooling: heat pump system is an optimal solution, since it guarantees a substantial reduction in electricity consumption.
  2. Ottemperare al regolamento vigente in materia di Gas Serra (Regolamento UE n. 573/2024)and future restrictions: this regulation requires to move away from ozone depleting substance (ODS) and high-GWP refrigerants, orienting new projects to low-GWP technologies and solutions that pose a lower overall risk to human health and/or the environment. Natural refrigerants (HC and CO₂) fully capture these requirements.
  3. To identify an economically and technically sustainable solution: the technical complexity related to the reversibility of the operation in units with cycle inversion on the refrigeration circuit, involves high costs, as well as limits of reliability and availability of components.
  4. To overcome regulatory and safety constraints: in the naval field, there are constraints on the use of flammable or partially flammable refrigerants (HFO and HC).
  5. Simplify the systems on board the ship: ARCA can be installed in the single out-of-work cabin; the characteristic piping of hydronic systems is avoided.
  6. Reduce weights: the elimination of piping also means a substantial reduction in the weights on board the ship.
  7. Simplify maintenance operations: on-board piping maintenance is always complex and expensive; instead, thanks to the modularity and compactness of ARCA it is possible to easily replace the units in case of extraordinary maintenance.
  8. Contribute to promoting a "green" image of the naval sector: the players in the naval market are looking for ecological solutions to strengthen the "envinromental friendly" image of the sector.
  9.

Operating range from -10 °C to +45 °C

Continuous modulation of capacity from 30% to 100%

ARCA can also be equipped with the module for the production of domestic hot water: the production of DHW takes place without further energy expenditure during the cooling phases.
